How I Intend to Approach 2009
Happy Holy Daze, Pisces! My gift to you is advice about the coming year. First, read this quote from W.H. Auden's book The Dyer's Hand: "A daydream is a meal at which images are eaten. Some of us are gourmets, some gourmands, and a good many take their images precooked out of a can and swallow them down whole, absent-mindedly and with little relish." With this as your touchstone, I urge you to be a gourmet in your approach to daydreaming during 2009. It will be time for you to make your fantasy life into an art form instead of a chaotic, unconscious diversion. If you put more intention into your generation of mental images, you will find yourself better able to create what you really want.

I am reading a book on the psychology of Buddhism and yoga right now. I found this statement to be profound regarding people who make you angry;
Thank-you; You're my teacher.
I thought, "Yup, that is how 2009 is going to go down for me regarding the people I allow to piss me off."
It's all about reacting to myself and not those outside of myself this year. I will, of course, snark on them because it is my way, but they won't be of any serious consequence.
I knew that was Brezsny before I got to the by-line... I read my Cancerian horoscope regularly... He's quite the philosopher that Brezsny!
Kitty just reminded me of something that I need to tell myself all the time: the people who feel the need to tear you down, only so they can offer you "constructive criticism" in return, do so only because they themselves are in desperate need of advice, and are floundering in their own lives. Many people really don't stop to "taste" and savor the world they inhabit, a real shame. But trust me when I say this: they recognize when they are in the mist of someone who does, and they're envious. I will be a gourmet in my life in the truest sense of the word: I will insist on only the finest and true for myself. Not in a materialistic way, but in the way that I wish to be loved and love in return, the way that I forgive and wish to be forgiven...
