Delaying My Reaction, Turning to Distraction

I am going to wait a couple of days before I peep some of this impeachment hearing stuff. I continue to feel this "aint nothin' gonna happen" ache in my belly. The GOP is operating as if it said, "Devil take the wheel."

So, what I am going to do is show up for life. Give it my best. Then, when I peep and have to defuse from the madness occurring in the cesspool known as DC, I will turn to music, because ya know music is the answer.  Here are some tracks that put me in good types of feelings:

Depending on my mood my interpretation of this video ranges from it being about the second coming of Christ; the rise of a cult leader, or, alien beings taking control of the planet -- city by city.  Check it out and tell me what you think.

Okay let's wind it down good people. You can chill and chat with this jam at your next get-together with fam and/or friends. It will put everyone in the right mood.

Music Is Still The Answer

It's been a minute since I posted some of the music that is taking care of my mind, body and soul. I hope you like.

This woman is cool.  Her homegirls are cool. The song brings me back to those days of young heartache and insecurity.


Some chill vibe from a group out of Wadsworth, London. I've read somewhere the lead male singer is queer. Who cares? His voice is all kinds of sexy to me.


I first heard this on SYTYCD (which has some fierce dancers this year) and was blown away. Travis Wall choreo a contemporary number to it, which was on point. I digress. This version brings a Alex-clicking-the-light-on-and-off-while-masacara-runs-down-her-face feel to this song.


Okay, enough of the sads. Seinabo mixes in thoughts of empowerment with a love gone wrong.

My Summer Soundtrack

It been far too long since I shared some music with you good people. Here are some tracks that have kept me chugging along during the summer. I just finished teaching during Summer School, and now my vacation officially begins.

Jamie xx - Sleep Sound: I first got into this dude after I heard his  fierce remix of Adele's Rolling In The Deep. This track will take you on a journey.

Supporting The Music Makers On The Fringes

When music artists turn me on, I make sure to seek them out from time to time, especially if they operate outside of the mainstream pop world.

Many of these artist don't get the heavy radio play or big budget promotions. They work in solitude and have to do gig after gig to make a name for themselves.

With that said, I had posted about this woman's blog, vibe and music awhile back. I was turned on again when I  found new music from Tokimonsta.

The second track below is a wicked remix of Eight and a Half's song; Scissors.

She needs to get over to my neck of the woods and do a show, so I can get my groove on and support her efforts.

My Spring Soundtrack

Good people, it's been awhile since I shared what is turning me on sonically. Here are some tracks that are helping me take in the arrival of spring in a joyful way.

The Warning by Sepalcure: A nice track to get you going without amping you up too much. It has the layers and house vibe that I love.


Make It Better (Stylus Dust Remix) by The Knocks: I stomp to the bus stop while this track gets my mind, body and soul ready for my students.


Electric Feel by MGMT: This track has been out for awhile, but it's new to me. I came across the band while reading some shady remarks about them. Hey, it's has a nice beat, and you can dance to it. Plus, I like when DWB try to serve up some soul.

Past Grammy Moments That Stayed In My Head

I will tune into the Grammy Awards tonight. Over the past few years they have really turned the award show more into a concert. Plus music folks are so much more interesting to look at, because they be crazy. Who can ever forget the Grace Jones and Rick James pairing way back when? That moment was a hoot.

Here are some moments that have stayed in my head over the years.

Marcos so loved this performance. We would watch Pink over and over again.

I was a huge Culture Club fan! I was home with my family watching and totally turned red when Boy George said "You know a good drag queen when you see one." As a closeted gay teen I felt exposed.

I remember feeling an emotional pain, while being soothed by their voices. I was just a kid. Wow! The emotions music can stir within a person.

Music Therapy - Old Skool Style

Good people, today was rough. I found myself missing Marcos and then frustrated that he is not here with me. I actually argued with him by talking to the air. I allowed myself that moment. Then I remembered that he fought long and hard, but was ill. While writing this I remember how handsome he was, and that I would love to give him one long kiss.

I know find myself, like I usually do, going back to the past. Today's therapy required me to revisit the music that ushered me into being a hip-hopper. I'm just visiting, but not staying. I needed a jolt of the old, in order to continue to allow me to move forward. When I heard old skool hip hop I was never the same. I found a profound connection to my time and generation. I was 12 years-old.

So this is about feeling a connection and accepting the time I am living within. I know there are some former hip-hoppers navigating life just like I am. Aint that right Renee?


When I heard this song I realized I was a teenager! Gag on this. I first heard this song at a Christian church dance!


This song will influence my movement into loving and vibing off of House Music. Yeah, I know the song in this video is very techno, but the subject matter and sonic vibe brought me to appreciate the scene at the Paradise Garage.


I love this man's voice.

VMAs Done Did Me Right...Who Knew?

I sorta stopped watching music videos a few years back. Well, not really stopped, but rarely check in to see what is going on in that world. Most of the time I watch stuff that has gone viral and has a bunch of hype around it.

This video by Florence and the Machine totally went under my radar. I'm surprised my blogs of choice never featured it.

Luckily, I tuned into MTV's VMA, to see what Lady Gaga would wear of course, and serendipity hit, as I was seduced first by the song and now the imagery created around it.

I know this video is old for some of you, but will be new for many of you. Then again, when you revisit works of art, you often find something new in it to enjoy.

On The Hunt for New Tunes

I've been on the search for some new music this weekend. I'm feeling the need for a new soundtrack this summer.

I'm getting ready to graduate and emerge further into a life centered on thriving, rather than just surviving. Therefore, I need some hot tracks to accompany me.
