My New Reoccuring Day Dream

Viktor & Rolf continue to play with this high fashion as soft sculpture idea. If you recall in a previous post about this divine duo, I shared a video of their 2015 couture show. It was genius. Click here to revisit the fantasy. 

Well, the two designers are being a bit more ethereal about the sculpture, and have softened it up. Get into the drama. I love the choir singing Creep by Radiohead. Everything came together and made quite the fashion moment. 

I now want to wear all white for the entire summer.

2015 Fall Couture for Y'all

So Viktor & Rolf really went to a twisted but beautiful place for their Fall 2015 Couture collection. They had a vision of taking beautiful art off the walls and wrapping it around the female form. Is it a groundbreaking idea or fantasy, no not really, other designers have used paintings as an inspiration in designing a dress. Think of the Mondrian dress done by Yves St. Laurent.

However, Viktor & Rolf pulled off a construction idea that was truly genius. Check out the artistry and craft below.

Good people, come Sept. 21, 2012, the documentary Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel will be at select theaters in NYC and LA.

Diana Vreeland is a truly legendary woman in the world of fashion and culture.

Cheated Out of a Barbie

My sister Jenny so did not get the memo that informed her that when you have a gay brother into fashion, you are suppose to let him dress up and make you all sparkly. While I was lucky because I did get to play with her Barbies, she cheated me out of using her to play dress up.

Well, she did let me dress her up, once, for her 16th birthday. It was in December so she needed to be warm yet stylish. My cousin Eugene and I took her out for dinner and the World Trade Center way back in the 80s.

Her gift from me would be a complete outfit, from head to toe, bought at Unique, which was the trendiest store in the Village. It consisted of a turtleneck, bolero knit jacket and tartan pleated pants. Think Annie Lennox meets the Cosby kids. She ended up with three pieces that worked into her wardrobe and she pumped each item for points.

With such a successful experience you would think she would have had me by her side whenever she went clothes shopping. Yeah, not so much.

While she did always ask for my opinion whenever she came back from shopping, my nerves were kept in check, because she usually bought something cute. However, I was always left wondering if there was something shorter, longer, or at the very least in a different color.

I currently have a bone to pick with her, because she is yet once again not taking advantage of her access to the queens in her life.

My dear friend since high school, Devon, is an amazing designer. His sense of style is right on, and his work is always impeccable.

I keep telling my dear sister to commission my gay sistah for the occasional, frock, blouse, coat or jacket. Jenny will get a hot custom made garment, and Devon will make some coins. A win-win situation.

I guess I will have to settle with the fact she is a loving sister, an awesome mother, a warrior. However, when it comes to being my living Barbie, I just have to suck my teeth and roll my eyes.

Maybe I'll luck out in the far future when she gets a granddaughter. Ha! Who am I kidding? Jenny will snatch that little girl up for herself.

McQueen At The Met

After a brief postponement the family and I went to go see the Alexander McQueen exhibition at The Met.

I saw couture up close and personal. It was art. If you can please go see the exhibition. Don't be afraid about the long line, it moved really quickly.

Couture Fix - Oh So Satisfying

The couture collections have spread their magic. Click here to see what is next. Armani made me gag with these shimmering dresses that looked like electrically illuminated melted candy (see pictures above). I have to find the video to see how the garments moved.

Sy Fy Fashion Fantasy Moment

While dreaming about the future, I took a short glimpse into the past. I remembered how Thierry Mugler excited me about fashion with is vision and major fashion show productions. I even got to see one of his garments upclose and try on one of his necklaces when Willie Ninja walked for him back in the day. It made a then young gayling smile and feel fierce.



About 22 seconds into the video you will see Willie Ninja werk the Paris runway with his idol, the legendary Iman. I was so happy for Willie. He went from the projects of Queens, NY and served it in Paris and Russia along side a diva that he adored. Dreams do come true.



This is an amazing and fun fashion show extravaganza. They don't build shows like this anymore. Please note Thierry Mugler's fashion has become a major inspiration for many designers of today. He was really ahead of his time.

Couture Junkie Rides The Late Train

The Fall 2010 couture shows have come and gone several weeks ago. Yes, I know I'm on the late train with this newsflash. Give me a break good people. I was mad busy teaching summer school.

I find it funny that each year fashion folks declare the pending demise of couture. However, each season the magic of couture emerges from the imagination and hands of the devoted few in Paris.

They Better Bring It! - Update

I am so ready for the season finale of Project Runway tonight! I'm torn between Emilio and Seth Aaron. I think they are both very talented and mad cute. I even enjoy Emilio's lisp.

BTW, as we all know Jay and Anthony were chopped, however, they did show at Fashion Week!

UPDATE: I'm cool with the outcome. I totally agree with the reasoning. I also have to say what Jay said in the reunion show about one of the models was totally tacky. Eww!

NY Fashion Not Weak

Bravo to the American designers that showed during the NYC Fashion Week. I was really impressed with what came down the runway. Good people, I know the price tag on these clothes are out of many of our reaches. However, look to them for inspiration in terms of color, texture, cut and silhouette, when you go shopping.

Isaac Mizrahi impressed me. I was totally blown away by Marchesa (see image above). Click here for the full spectrum of fashion inspiration.

I also want to share my sadness regarding the death of Alexander McQueen. I love what he did for fashion. I also appreciated he was a child of a working-class family that did the work, put in his time on Saville Row, and created fashion that was truly inspired. I hope his spirit finds peace on the other side.

Couture Junkie Got A Fix

So, the 2010 Paris couture shows have spread their magic into the atmosphere. I was really impressed with Gaultier. My baby's daddy Galliano left me feeling a bit frustrated. He didn't bring the heat. I felt as if I had been texting him to bring me some money to buy diapers, and he was not responding.

It's A Wrap

Hey good people! I apologize for being MIA. I've been immersed in obligations and frustrations. Nuf said. So the NYC Fashion Week ended last week. It was a good time. Here are my thoughts:

- Way to go Christian Siriano! He showed for a second time in the big tents. I think it's awesome a Project Runway winner is taking that opportunity and werking it! Fierce!

- I love the trend of prints based on actual photographs. I feel Vivienne Tam took her classic butterfly motif to another level with this technique. Many other designers followed suit.

- Vivid colors were very important. Look for orange, purple, green, and believe it or not, get yourself some amber.

- My favorite accessory is the chunky colorful bracelet over at Diane Von Furstenberg. I think it would work well with at least three on one wrist, and the outfit being a solid color.

Bravo on a job well done American designers. BTW, fashion week is up and running in London this week. So far, Westwood is a standout.

It's A Commin'

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner. I'm excited! I'm hoping for inspiration, the madness, the leaps towards absurdity. Dazzle me NYC!

The September Issue

Ahem, it's not lost on me that the magazine print industry is withering away. Looks like Anna and crew are trying to revive a magazine that has been enduring dizzy spells due to the vapors. I hope Andre acts out deliciously.

P.S. For this film to open on 9/11 in select cities was not a smart marketing movie. They should have known better than to compete with a day of remembrance and present a documentary of people arguing over what looks pretty.

NY Fashion Weak

After indulging in the couture collections, looking at the highlights of NY Fashion Week's Fall '09 collections, was a bit of a let down. Mind you, there was some interesting stuff out there. However, the level of innovation is no where near what you see in couture. I know this is all ready-to-wear sportswear, but that doesn't mean you can't offer some level of scandal.

While Project Runway is on lockdown due to legal issues, they filmed the season, and the final three contestants showed at NY Fashion Week. The pic above is from one of the designers. I picked that image because I believe that is Jaslene, the first Latina to win ANTM. I'm so gay.
